About the Position

We are conducting a search for a dynamic, thoughtful, and bright individual to join our client's Engineering team based in sunny and beautiful Santa Barbara, California.

Our client is seeking to add a key contributor to their development team who will be instrumental in the design, development, and delivery of several initiatives core to the future of their platform. The ideal candidate will be a strong Ruby on Rails developer interested in working as part of the team to take a domain-driven design approach to create web applications utilizing an event-driven architecture. Your primary focus will be the development of server-side logic, ensuring high performance and responsiveness. You will also be responsible for integrating the front-end elements built by your teammates. A commitment to collaborative problem-solving, sophisticated design, and building quality products is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Ruby code
  • Provide technical oversight, conduct code reviews
  • Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems
  • Support, maintain, document, and write unit tests for software
  • Work under general supervision on complex projects with latitude for independent judgment
  • Assist less experienced teammates, as needed
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies for implementation

Requirements

  • 3+ years of Ruby on Rails experience along with other common libraries such as RSpec and Sidekiq
  • Good understanding of the syntax of Ruby and its nuances
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming
  • Familiarity with concepts of MVC, Mocking, ORM, and REST
  • A knack for writing clean, readable Ruby code
  • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
  • Ability to create database schemas that represent and support business processes
  • Knowledge of modern authorization mechanisms, such as JSON Web Token
  • Able to write unit tests and integrate with automated testing platforms
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools
