Responsibilities

As a General Merchandise Team Leader, you will:

• Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an Easy, Inspiring, and Friendly guest experience.
• Ensure every team member understands, is trained, and consistently delivers on Target’s guest experience commitments and consistent operations.
• Actively observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments.
• Review area guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action to improve, and align the team on the right behaviors and execution.
• Lead the execution of daily/weekly workload to deliver on department and store sales goals and guest engagement.
• Educate your team on how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
• Help assess reporting to identify gaps in GM processes and assist in developing a plan to resolve them.
• Assign daily tasks to team members based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns.
• Help establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable.
• Help with efficient delivery to our guests by leading pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work accurately.
• Ensure product is in stock, available, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor while prioritizing guest experience.
• Stay informed about relevant trends and products to educate team members.
• Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team.
• Identify team members for future leader positions and utilize growth development.
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier, digital fulfillment processes, and compliance culture.
• Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches.
• Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct and follow all Target policies and safety procedures.
• Lead and demonstrate a safety culture through modeling and recognizing safe behaviors.
• Model the execution of physical security processes to enhance the in-store security culture.
• Support merchandise protection strategies across the total store.
• Occasionally assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities.
• Address all store emergency and compliance needs.
• Perform all other duties based on business needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Age 18 or older
• Previous retail experience preferred, but not required
• Lead and hold others accountable
• Communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed
• Work independently and as part of a team
• Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
• Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and other team members
• Effective communication skills
