Head of Engineering (Utilities)

We are looking for a Head of Engineering who will lead the technical direction at the level of several product units, build necessary engineering processes and standards from scratch, and have a real mandate to make technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Build and develop the engineering direction from scratch (web)
• Form engineering processes, standards, and approaches that can be scaled between product units
• Have technical ownership of the direction and be involved in key technical decisions
• Directly manage technical leaders of product units: set business goals, mentor, provide feedback, and help them grow
• Identify technical bottlenecks and systematically address them through new engineering practices, automation, AI, etc.
• Work with teams responsible for the company's platform: formulate technical requests, verify their feasibility, and find optimal solutions
• Determine where technical changes can have the greatest impact on the business and translate this into specific initiatives
• Scale successful engineering solutions across products and units
• Take ownership of launching new directions
• Be hands-on when the situation requires it, not just staying at the management level

Requirements

• 4+ years of commercial development, strong hands-on engineering background
• Experience in backend development with Node.js
• 2+ years of direct management of engineering teams
• Experience in building or significantly restructuring product architecture end-to-end: web + backend
• Ability to independently make technical and architectural decisions
• Ability to translate business context into technical solutions and roadmaps
• Experience in successfully using AI in development and a desire to develop an AI-first approach in engineering
• Understanding of how to integrate AI/LLM into production products
• Willingness to work where not all processes are already defined and much needs to be created independently
• Knowledge of DB: complex queries, indexes, working with large tables
• Understanding of the principles and lifecycle of mobile and web products
• Understanding how technical decisions impact product metrics and business results
• Experience with monitoring, stability, and product performance
• Ability to assess a technical problem not only from a code perspective but also through its impact on the user, product, and business

• Experience with iOS/Android
• Experience with subscription products
• Experience launching teams/directions from scratch and scaling products
