Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Human Engineer to join our Vertical Lift Human Engineering team in Ridley Park, PA.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Human Engineering knowledge and principles to the analysis, design, and evaluation of complex systems
  • Design and document system software requirements (e.g., Developing, reviewing, and approving software and hardware PVI for cockpit and other interfaces)
  • Support civil and military certification activities
  • Define and validate/test system performance requirements to ensure safe and successful human operation of physical, functional, and program interfaces for all system operators
  • Apply human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of complex systems
  • Develop and implement research methodologies and analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes
  • Apply a knowledge of military standards (such as MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1474, MIL-STD-1787, MIL-STD-3009, MIL-STD-411F, MIL-HDBK-516) to meet program requirements
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate HE considerations into the overall system design, development, and production
  • Conduct user engagement activities throughout the design process via interviews, focus groups, field studies, etc.
  • Occasional business travel and after-hours support may be required

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Cognitive Psychology, or other Human Engineering related field of study
  • 1+ years of work experience in Human Engineering or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience

Nice to Have

  • Level 2 - Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years’ or Master’s
  • Level 3 - Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ or Master’s and 3+ years' experience
  • Associate Certification from Board Certification in Professional Ergonomics or equivalent education
  • Understanding of Human System Integration (HSI) in the defense acquisition process
  • Knowledge of military standards (such as MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1474, MIL-STD-2525, MIL-STD-1787, MIL-STD-3009, MIL-HDBK-516, MIL-STD 411F, DoDI 5000.95, and JSSG-2010)
  • Ability to derive Human Engineering requirements
  • Experience supporting defense programs
  • Experience in program documentation of the HE processes and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions (e.g., Human Engineering Program Plan, Human Engineering Design Approach Document – Operator, Human Engineering Design Approach Document – Maintainer, Human Engineering Test Plan, Human Engineering Test Report, et. al)
  • Experience with the user interface software prototyping tools
  • Experience with Usability software
  • Knowledge in Human Perception and Cognition
  • Experience with Human Performance Modeling
  • Experience in workload assessments and situation awareness assessments such as NASA TLX
  • Experience in conducting tasks analyses and mapping user workflow
  • Ability to evaluate designs against Human Readiness Levels (HRLs)
  • Experience in Agile Development
  • Previous experience with civil certification knowledge (e.g., FAA/CS 29)
  • Testing or evaluation experience: Ergonomic assessments, lighting evaluations, intelligibility testing, as well as workload, cognitive, or usability testing
  • Previous experience developing style guides and implementing UI design tenets
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
