Responsibilities

• Develop scalable backend services using Core Java (Java 11+ / 17)
• Utilize the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data) to build RESTful services
• Design APIs adhering to REST standards, versioning, idempotency, pagination, and OpenAPI/Swagger
• Implement testing discipline using JUnit 5, Mockito, and understand test pyramid
• Manage build and dependencies using Maven/Gradle
• Handle data layer operations with SQL fundamentals and experience with RDBMS (e.g., Oracle/Postgres)
• Ensure security basics including OAuth2/OIDC concepts, JWT, secure coding (OWASP Top 10), input validation, and secrets handling
• Profile and troubleshoot performance issues using profiling basics, log-driven debugging
• Follow Git practices for code reviews, clean code, static analysis, and refactoring
• Support production issues responsibly with a delivery mindset

Requirements

• Core Java: Strong Java (ideally Java 11+ / 17), OOP, collections, concurrency basics, JVM fundamentals
• Spring ecosystem: Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data; building RESTful services; validation and error handling
• API design: REST standards, versioning, idempotency, pagination, OpenAPI/Swagger
• Testing discipline: JUnit 5, Mockito; integration testing; test pyramid understanding; ability to write maintainable tests
• Build & dependency management: Maven/Gradle; managing dependencies safely (incl. avoiding vulnerable libraries)
• Data layer: SQL fundamentals; experience with one RDBMS (e.g., Oracle/Postgres); transaction handling; performance basics
• Security basics: OAuth2/OIDC concepts, JWT, secure coding (OWASP Top 10), input validation, secrets handling
• Performance & troubleshooting: Profiling basics, log-driven debugging, understanding latency/throughput trade-offs
• Git + code quality: Code reviews, clean code, static analysis (Sonar-style), refactoring
• Delivery mindset: Works with DevSecOps/QA, understands CI/CD, and can support production issues responsibly
• Payments Background: Basic understanding of the payments flows

Nice to Have

• Microservices patterns: Resilience (timeouts/retries/circuit breakers), distributed tracing, eventual consistency
• Messaging/streaming: Kafka/RabbitMQ; event-driven design; exactly-once/at-least-once trade-offs
• Reactive programming: WebFlux/Reactor (where relevant)
• Caching: Redis/Hazelcast; cache invalidation strategies
• NoSQL exposure: MongoDB/Cassandra (if the domain needs it)
• Cloud-native: 12-factor apps, containerisation, Kubernetes basics, cloud managed services
• Domain-driven design: DDD, hexagonal architecture, CQRS (when appropriate)
• Observability: Structured logging, metrics, tracing; correlation IDs
• Security depth: mTLS, certificate handling, secure API-to-API auth, threat modelling participation
