(Junior) DevOps Engineer (m/w/d) Mobilfunk

CHECK24, the leading comparison portal, is seeking a (Junior) DevOps Engineer (m/w/d) for our Mobilfunk team in Cologne. Responsibilities

• System Operation and Maintenance: Perform updates, security optimizations, and regular maintenance to ensure stable and secure system operation.
• Backend Development: Design, develop, and maintain backend functionalities using PHP and Symfony.
• End-to-End Responsibility: Operate and manage our mobile-specific IT systems (e.g., booking platforms) throughout their lifecycle.
• Scaling Systems: Build and develop our Linux-based infrastructure, from server setup and automation to CI/CD processes, ensuring stability and performance through monitoring, logging, and continuous optimization.
• Teamwork: Work closely with product management, frontend development, and other departments within an IT taskforce in the mobile sector, focusing on backend, DevOps, and system scaling and development.

Requirements

• Qualification: A strong academic background in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
• Web Architecture Understanding: Basic knowledge of web technologies and communication standards such as HTTP, RESTful APIs, and frontend/backend communication.
• Database Knowledge: Proficient use of relational databases like MySQL in daily development work.
• Fullstack Readiness: Interest in implementing features in the backend and developing skills in this area.
• Practical Experience: Excellent knowledge of CI/CD processes, Docker-based environments, and monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., Grafana). Additionally, interest in programming languages such as Go, PHP, or Python, and a passion for developing clean and scalable code.
• Tech Stack: Strong practical experience in the Linux environment and with configuration and deployment tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, or Chef). You should also have knowledge of web and infrastructure technologies such as Docker, Nginx, PHP-FPM, NodeJS, MySQL (including backup/replication), and a basic understanding of networks (firewall, routing, VLAN).
• Work Approach: Structured, independent work style and enjoyment of teamwork.
• Language Skills: Fluent German and English skills at least at C1 level.
