About the Position
Railroad Grade Crossing Engineering – Project Manager
Benesch is looking for a Grade Crossing Engineering Project Manager to join our nationally recognized Railroad Division. This is a seller-doer role for someone who thrives on ownership, high-impact projects, and client interaction. You’ll lead critical railroad safety initiatives while being hands-on in design, analysis, and delivery.
As a key player in our Railroad Division, you’ll lead projects that make rail travel safer and more efficient nationwide. You’ll manage high-profile assignments from planning and analysis through design and construction, while also building client relationships and driving business growth. Projects you’ll own include traffic signal preemption and coordination at rail grade crossings, railroad grade crossing safety upgrades, traffic operations studies and corridor evaluations, and railroad-roadway interface design and analysis.
Location
While the role is based in Fort Worth, TX, we’re open to fully remote arrangements for the right candidate. Travel will be required to meet project demands and connect with clients and project teams.
The Impact You Will Have
- Lead high-visibility, national railroad safety projects from concept through construction
- Serve in a seller-doer role, balancing technical delivery with client interaction and relationship building
- Conduct and review technical analyses, investigations, and calculations for railroad and traffic engineering projects
- Prepare reports, documentation, and technical memoranda relied on by clients and stakeholders
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and quality control, ensuring successful delivery
- Coordinate with clients, railroads, agencies, and internal teams to keep projects on track
- Draft and manage project correspondence and provide regular status updates
- Apply design standards, codes, and safety requirements across all projects
- Mentor and develop junior staff, providing guidance and technical support
- Travel to project sites as needed to meet client and project requirements
- Drive projects that directly improve rail and roadway safety nationwide
What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Senior-level experience managing railroad grade crossing safety and traffic signal projects
- Hands-on experience with traffic signal operations preferred
- Proficiency in engineering software such as MicroStation, InRoads, and AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Strong understanding of codes, standards, and industry best practices
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment

Pay Range
$135,000-$160,000 USD
