About the Position

Senior Back-end Engineer (PHP) | FYUL

Remote / Recruitment

The Product

FYUL is a high-growth, print-on-demand platform that connects e-commerce merchants and print-on-demand manufacturers. Our mission is to build a platform that lets anyone, anywhere unlock their own personal freedom. The freedom to generate income, be your own boss, and set your schedule. So far we’ve seen more than 6 million people sign up to start their own eCommerce businesses with FYUL. Because every order is made on-demand, there’s no risk to getting started, just reward for putting in the work. Our aim is to put this power to build a business into the hands of every person who wants to create their own business. We transform business dreams into awesome digital products.

We do this magic through 24 loosely coupled squads - each specializing in their own area of expertise. These include, but are not limited to, Demand Integrations, Growth, Order, Payments, Supply, and Product Presentation. FYUL is a true product company. Each engineering squad works on its own product or area of expertise tirelessly. This yields sustainable, clean code along with less technical debt.

FYUL product teams consist of 3 to 6 developers each. They are cross-functional, self-sufficient, and highly autonomous teams, working in direct cooperation with Product Managers and Designers.

FYUL people come from more than 20 countries. Our team has grown to more than 600 team members (and growing!).

About the Role

FYUL is looking for a Senior Back-end Engineer to join our team and help build reliable, scalable systems that power on-demand commerce at a global scale.

You’ll work on complex backend challenges across our commerce ecosystem, partnering closely with Product Managers and other stakeholders to turn business needs into impactful technical solutions.

We’re looking for someone who is not just focused on writing code, but also thinks about why we are building something, how it should work at scale, and what will create the most value for users and the business.

Depending on the opportunity, this can be a permanent position or a 6-month contract assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and ship high-quality, scalable backend solutions

  • Contribute to code reviews, refactoring, testing, and pair programming
  • Debug complex issues and drive prioritized bug fixes and platform improvements
  • Participate in technical discussions and challenge requirements when needed to make sure we’re solving the right problems
  • Share knowledge with the team through technical sessions, discussions, and day-to-day collaboration
  • Continuously improve engineering practices and development workflows, including the use of AI-assisted development tools

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional backend development experience
  • Strong experience with PHP or Node.js, and willingness to work with the other technology
  • Solid understanding of high-load architecture and distributed systems
  • Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and CQRS
  • Strong foundation in software engineering principles and practices, including SOLID, TDD, CI/CD, and Agile
  • Good understanding of debugging, unit testing, and application performance optimization
  • Experience working with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Redis
  • Experience with modern cloud and infrastructure technologies such as AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Comfortable working closely with Product Managers and other stakeholders
  • A product-minded approach - you care about business impact, not only technical preferences
  • Strong ownership and ability to drive work independently
  • Good spoken and written English
