Senior NodeJS developer

About the Position

We are looking for a Senior NodeJS Developer to join Chowdeck, a company transforming food delivery across Africa. You will help build and scale the API infrastructure powering our ecosystem, working on high-load, real-time systems and collaborating closely with product, frontend, and design teams.

About the Role

As a Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining backend APIs and services, debugging production issues, and improving system performance, scalability, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend APIs and services
• Debug and resolve production issues across services
• Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability
• Collaborate with Product, Frontend, and UX teams
• Contribute to architecture decisions and technical improvements
• Identify and reduce technical debt (standards, tooling, processes)

Requirements

• 6+ years of backend development experience
• Strong knowledge of Node.js, JavaScript, MySQL
• Experience with Redis and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP)
• Experience building scalable, high-load systems
• Strong focus on clean, maintainable, and testable code
• Good problem-solving skills and product thinking
• Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

• Experience with high-availability systems or distributed architecture
• Previous experience in fast-growing startups
• Mentoring or tech leadership exposure
