Senior Software Engineer

About the Position

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, or Lviv, Ukraine. This role is hybrid and offers remote work options. In this position, you will help shape and evolve a backend platform built with PHP and Laravel. You will work on scalable services, modernize existing systems, design reliable APIs, and contribute to architectural decisions that support long-term platform growth. The position is suited to an engineer who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical software solutions.

Responsibilities

• Drive backend development initiatives using PHP and Laravel, ensuring maintainable code and scalable system architecture.
• Collaborate with business analysts, product stakeholders, and technical leaders to turn business requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Take ownership of the software development lifecycle, including architecture, implementation, testing, release support, and continuous improvement activities.
• Develop and maintain reliable, high-performing REST APIs while preserving system stability and backward compatibility.
• Refactor and modernize existing codebases to improve maintainability, scalability, and overall application performance.
• Design and implement microservices and service-oriented solutions while applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles where appropriate.
• Build and maintain asynchronous processing workflows using messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ, AWS SQS, and other event-driven solutions.
• Optimize MySQL databases, queries, and data structures to improve efficiency and application performance.
• Contribute to shared libraries, internal development tools, and architectural discussions that support platform evolution and engineering productivity.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience developing applications with PHP in production environments.
• Advanced expertise in Laravel, including service containers, contracts, service providers, events, listeners, custom collections, and framework internals.
• Experience creating, maintaining, and supporting private packages and reusable Laravel modules.
• Strong background in automated testing with PHPUnit, including feature, HTTP, integration testing, data providers, and mocking techniques.
• Practical application of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles in software development.
• Experience designing and implementing distributed systems, including microservices and service-oriented architectures.
• Strong knowledge of REST API design, including authentication, versioning, pagination, validation, error handling, and API best practices.
• Advanced MySQL expertise, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, transactional workflows, and database performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with Redis and message-driven architectures using technologies such as RabbitMQ, AWS SQS, or other AMQP-compatible platforms.
• Experience working with AWS services, Docker, Git workflows, and CI/CD practices, combined with strong analytical, communication, and architectural decision-making skills.
