Your Mission

Join our team at smartclip as a Software Engineer, Data Platforms. Develop and build the systems that process, transform, and refine terabytes of TV and ad data daily. Your goal: Ensure our data platform is scalable, robust, and at the cutting edge of technology.

• Develop scalable platforms: Design and implement technical solutions for big data applications in an agile, performance-driven environment.
• Optimize data flows: Continuously develop and optimize our data aggregation pipelines for TV data, advertising, and forecasting-primarily using Spark and Scala.
• Implement cloud-native solutions: Operate, manage, and scale your solutions with Docker and Kubernetes in the AWS cloud.
• Focus on quality: Drive test automation consistently-from unit tests to complex integration tests. For us, Test Driven Development (TDD) is the path to building reliable systems.
• Explore new technologies: Evaluate new frameworks and tools, share your insights with the team, and help us stay at the forefront of big data development.

Your Skills

You are a Software Engineer through and through and love the challenge of massive data volumes. You turn the complexity of terabytes of data into elegant and efficient code.

• Engineering experience: Bring solid experience in software development, ideally with a strong focus on JVM languages like Scala or Java and/or Python.
• Big data expertise: Work confidently with Spark, Hadoop, or similar distributed systems. Experience with Trino, Flowman, or Delta Lake is a plus.
• Infrastructure knowledge: Familiar with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS, and able to use these technologies securely.
• Quality focus: Deliver code with tests. Emphasize efficiency, clean architecture, and pragmatic solutions.
• Open-source enthusiast: Value the freedom and transparency of open-source software. You won’t find closed-source or Microsoft stacks here.
• Mindset: Bring a “we’ll find a solution” mentality, a hands-on attitude, and excellent German and English language skills.

• Remote work with targeted meetings: We work predominantly remotely and occasionally gather in our Tech Office in Berlin for workshops, team sessions, and shared exchanges. We also organize team events throughout the year, including our annual company offsite, held at a different location in Germany each year. Willingness to travel and participate in these meetings is part of the role.
• Ownership instead of micromanagement: Take responsibility for your tasks and drive them forward independently.
• Build > Talk: Experiment early, make mistakes early, and learn quickly.
