About the Position

Tech/Team Lead (Data/ML)

SmartFAB is seeking a Tech/Team Lead (Data/ML) with 5-7+ years of experience to lead a team and develop data/ML pipelines in Milan with flexible remote options.

Responsibilities

Leadership (about 50%)

Own delivery outcomes, technical quality, and architectural decisions.
Mentor engineers and data scientists; set standards for reviews and testing.
Plan and communicate roadmap, scope, and priorities with stakeholders.
Translate business requirements into technical milestones.

Hands-On Development (about 50%)

Design and implement data/ML pipelines and optimization models.
Build production-grade services integrated into platform.
Bring models to production, monitor performance, and iterate.
Contribute directly to backend services and dashboard features.
Collaborate on infra and data flow improvements (AWS + Terraform).

Requirements

5-7+ years in Data/ML engineering or applied data science with end-to-end ownership.
Strong Python and SQL.
Experience with optimization or scheduling (linear/nonlinear, heuristics).
Hands-on with industrial data: time series, events, sensors, logs.
Proven track record shipping models to production and monitoring impact.
Familiarity with production data/ML architectures (cloud + Docker).
Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
STEM MSc or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have

Manufacturing domain experience.
Simulation modeling.
MLOps (monitoring, CI/CD for ML).
Publications or open-source contributions.

Data Flow (High Level)

Sensors, events, and datasets are collected by the Data Collector service (FastAPI), with support for MQTT and file uploads. Data lands in S3 and streams through Kinesis/Flink for near-real-time processing. Services are hosted on EC2 and routed through ALB/NLB and API Gateway with Keycloak authentication. Results are surfaced in the Dash UI. Operational data is stored in RDS/MySQL/DynamoDB, with monitoring and alerts via CloudWatch + SNS.
