Asset Accounting Expert – IFRS & CAPEX

About the Position

FEL261012P2A1: Asset Accounting Expert – IFRS & CAPEX | Brussels | 60% Remote

We're seeking an experienced Asset Accounting Expert to join an international company in the energy sector. This role focuses on strengthening accounting governance over the company's growing CAPEX portfolio, with a particular emphasis on digital and intangible investments. The position combines operational expertise with technical accounting advisory, contributing to the definition, implementation, and continuous improvement of capitalization policies, processes, and controls.

Responsibilities

• CAPEX Governance & Accounting Advisory

  • Act as a subject matter expert on CAPEX accounting and capitalization principles under IFRS and Group policies.
  • Support the definition and maintenance of accounting guidelines governing OPEX versus CAPEX treatment.
  • Review complex and high-value investment projects, including digital and software-related initiatives.
  • Advise project managers, controlling teams, and finance stakeholders on capitalization matters throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure consistent and audit-ready documentation supporting accounting judgments.
  • Support the follow-up and remediation of internal and external audit recommendations related to CAPEX accounting and fixed/intangible assets.

• Intangible Assets & Digital Investments

  • Lead the accounting follow-up of software development and digital transformation projects.
  • Assess capitalization eligibility of internal and external development costs.
  • Monitor the accounting treatment of agile, cloud, platform, and other emerging technology projects.
  • Ensure appropriate recognition, amortization, and impairment assessment of intangible assets.

• Reporting, Controls & Audit

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities related to fixed and intangible assets.
  • Analyze CAPEX trends, asset movements, and key accounting estimates.
  • Coordinate responses to internal and external audit requests.
  • Contribute to strengthening the internal control environment surrounding asset accounting processes.

• Process Description & Continuous Improvement

  • Document, review, and improve asset accounting and capitalization processes and governance, and change or update them where needed.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of asset accounting processes and governance.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, digitalization, and efficiency improvements.

• Cross-Functional & Cross-Country Collaboration

  • Act as a key interface between Finance, IT, Engineering, Project Management, and Controlling teams.
  • Support alignment of accounting practices and governance frameworks across the Belgian and German entities.
  • Share expertise and contribute to the development of accounting knowledge within the team.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Group accounting guidance related to CAPEX accounting, intangible assets, and capitalization policies.

Requirements

• Education

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Experience

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in Asset Accounting, Audit, Technical Accounting, Financial Controlling, or Project Accounting.
  • Strong exposure to CAPEX-intensive environments.
  • Experience with digital transformation, software development projects, or intangible assets is a strong advantage.
  • Experience in Big Four audit and/or technical accounting advisory is considered an asset.

• Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of IFRS and asset accounting principles.
  • Solid knowledge of IAS 16 and IAS 38.
  • Ability to assess and document complex accounting judgments.
  • Knowledge of SAP Asset Accounting (FI-AA) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
  • Advanced Excel skills.

• Languages

  • Knowledge of English and French or Dutch.

• Location: Brussels, Belgium
• Work Model: Hybrid
• Onsite Requirement: 2 days per week, 60% remote
• Workload: 100% (Monday to Friday)
• Start: ASAP
• Duration: until 30.06.2029, 33 months
• Non-EU candidates: A valid work permit and residence permit for Belgium are required
