An international company in the energy sector is looking for an experienced Energy Flexibility Analyst & Project Manager for its Flexibility Studies team. You will quantify the flexibility of heat pumps, EVs, batteries, PV and industrial processes across all voltage levels in Belgium and drive the project management of the Flexibility Track and Trace Initiative (50/50 analysis and project management).

Responsibilities

• Gather, analyze and disseminate information on flexibility provided by all technologies across all voltage levels and regions in Belgium, including:
  • the number of installed flexible assets (heat pumps, electric cars, home batteries);
  • the number of assets capable of responding, or already responding, to price signals (dynamic tariffs) or other signals (capacity tariffs);
  • the profiles with which these assets can respond.
• Develop and execute strategies to obtain information through desktop research (e.g. regulators' websites), interviews, contacting market parties (distribution system operators, sector federations) or inventive ways to retrieve unavailable information.
• Analyze time series of grid user consumption and smart metering data (offtake and injections), renewable energy forecast errors, market player behavior (nominations and adjustments) and system imbalances, and determine relationships with system conditions, seasonality or other drivers.
• Apply basic statistical analysis and machine learning techniques where needed.
• Communicate and disseminate results and insights to different target audiences (experts, management, external) through clear presentations.
• Translate results and insights into tools and applications (guiding development with IT departments), strategic recommendations (with market departments) and scenario inputs (with grid study departments).
• Contribute to project management and follow-up of the Flexibility Track and Trace Initiative (scope, timing, budget, resources, communication plan) and manage its implementation and growth together with business experts, analysts and IT.
• Manage interactions with the involved departments (grid development, market development, system operation / control center) and collaborate with cross-functional teams to align program objectives with the company's strategic goals.
• Oversee the systematic monitoring process, ensuring data accuracy and timeliness.
• Report program progress and deliverables to management and governance bodies and identify process improvement opportunities.

Requirements

• At least 3-5 years of relevant experience.
• Fluent in English, Dutch or French with adequate knowledge of the other languages; fluent communication in English, orally and in writing.
• Preferably a master's degree in engineering, commercial engineering or economics, with a strong interest in working in a technical environment.
• Keen interest in the energy sector and understanding of how the energy market works; preferably several years of experience in the electricity market.
• Strong analytical mind; able to master and understand complex processes and to translate an abstract strategic objective into realistic solutions.
• Able to translate a question into a quantitative analysis or approach; strongly driven by facts and figures and able to support reasoning clearly with quantitative results.
• Sufficient knowledge of and experience with statistical methods (e.g. machine learning) to analyze large data sets.
• Interest and experience in performing calculations in Excel and willingness to work with Python or similar programming languages where necessary; good knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Able to combine different types of tasks (from operational to conceptual), organize yourself autonomously and set priorities well.
• Quick learner with a proactive and positive attitude; able to focus on details without losing sight of the overall picture and to deliver flawless work.
• Excellent organizational and project management abilities; able to take steering action within a project, also with a view to concrete implementation.
• Team player who works collaboratively with diverse teams, is results-oriented and has a fluent communication style.
