About the Position

We are seeking a Process Engineer with 5+ years of experience in automotive tooling and welding manufacturing processes to join our team in New Hudson, MI.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with divisional, customer, and supplier staff specialists to ensure the successful development and implementation of engineering changes, Continuous Improvement Initiatives, and projects which affect die tooling and assembly processes.
  • Responsible for the follow-up of mechanical systems designs for a variety of applications including welders, robots, and assembly, conveyor, and transfer systems.
  • Uses project management skills and methodologies (APQP, PPAP & CPMP) to track, record, and report on project progress and develop solutions for problems encountered during the project.
  • Leads project and product-related CFT meetings, ensuring open communication relating to all ongoing and potential projects/changes.
  • Develops and writes equipment specifications, performance requirements, cost analysis, and proposals for integrating machinery and equipment into the manufacturing process.
  • Acts as liaison with customers and suppliers to anticipate and minimize the impact of design, tooling, material, and other engineering changes on the cost and capability of projects.
  • Establishes and follows up on full project implementation (concept, feasibility, design, construction, try-out, launch, buy-off, prototype programs, etc.) and is responsible for project timing, quality, and costs.
  • Prepares reports, charts, timing schedules, and other documentation required for engineering records and projects.
  • Interfaces with co-workers in other departments such as maintenance and manufacturing to provide technical information and support.
  • Ensures that all Installation Risk Assessment, PFMEA, Safety & CE Risk Assessment, and MFMEA are conducted and in compliance.
  • Complies with relevant Quality and Environmental programs (e.g., TS16949, ISO14001) and all Health and Safety programs in accordance with OSHA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or College Diploma in Engineering Technology; and/or a Certificate of Qualification in Tool and Die, with Project Management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in small to large automotive tooling and welding manufacturing processes.
  • Must have 2 - 5 years of experience coordinating and managing projects related to tooling and assembly automated equipment.
  • Proven leadership experience; excellent problem-solving ability; organizational and planning abilities; negotiation skills; and mechanical/technical abilities.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Die Build Standards, project management, APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, VA/VE, CAD, and other automotive-related activities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, organizational, project, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, etc.).
  • CAD computer skills are an asset.
  • Previous die/part processing and cost estimating are a definite asset.
