Senior Backend Developer - Energy Management Systems

Do you want to write backend code that actually matters, powering energy efficiency for thousands of buildings across Europe? Are you an experienced Java developer who takes end-to-end ownership, makes deliberate architectural choices, and wants real influence over a platform built on Azure and Kubernetes?

Then you might be the Senior Backend Developer our Mestro team in Stockholm is looking for!

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for the Mestro platform.
• Drive architectural and technical decisions, and take responsibility for their consequences.
• Deploy, monitor, and operate applications in Azure and Kubernetes.
• Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability issues.
• Set the bar for code quality through well-tested code and constructive code reviews.
• Break down complex and unclear requirements together with product owners and turn them into solutions that can be delivered.
• Mentor colleagues and raise the level of the whole team, not just your own output.

Requirements

• Have 8-10 years of professional experience in backend development.
• Have deep knowledge of Java, and solid experience with MS SQL and Azure.
• Have hands-on experience building and running applications in Kubernetes.
• Have a strong grasp of software architecture and distributed systems, including the trade-offs they involve.
• Have experience mentoring developers and driving technical decisions in a team.
• Communicate confidently in English, both in writing and in technical discussion.

Nice to Have

• Experience designing and operating microservice architectures.
• Strong CI/CD and DevOps practices: pipelines, infrastructure as code, and observability.
• Experience with large data volumes, time series data, or integrations with external data sources.
• Background in the energy management, proptech, or data analytics domain.
