Responsibilities

• Carry out and/or verify stability studies for civil engineering structures within the client’s projects in accordance with applicable standards and legislation.
• The stability studies cover the following frequently occurring structures:
  • Foundation blocks for AIS (Air Insulated Station) installations, with or without deep foundations.
  • Transformer bays that simultaneously serve as foundations for the transformers and as containment systems in the event of incidents such as oil leaks.
  • Noise barriers and fire-resistant walls.
  • Shared underground oil containment basins.
  • Industrial buildings for housing GIS (Gas Insulated Station), relay rooms, medium-voltage cabins and similar installations, with or without storage and sanitary facilities.
  • Steel structures, such as metal supports for high-voltage equipment, gantries for line terminations and high-voltage connections, for example busbar gantries, and supports for securing high-voltage and medium-voltage cables.
  • Foundations for high-voltage pylons using strip or pad foundations or foundation piles.
  • Project-specific structures such as retaining walls, underground substations and cable tunnels.
• Contribute to the preparation of guidelines and standards.
• Help prepare civil engineering notes that define the client’s requirements.
• Work mainly with internal and external designers, experts and project managers.
• Prepare clear calculation notes and verify consistency between plans and calculations.
• For outsourced studies, review the stability study and associated plans supplied by external partners.
• Prepare comments and communicate them to the external partners in order to reach a final validated version.

Requirements

• Qualifications:
  • Civil engineer or civil engineer-architect in civil engineering, or industrial engineer specializing in civil engineering.
  • More than 15 years of experience.
  • Affinity with stability calculations and soil mechanics.
  • Preferably bilingual in Dutch and French; good basic knowledge of English is an advantage.
  • Team-oriented, communicative and client-oriented, and able to collaborate with other departments and external parties.
  • Good knowledge of existing standards, including:
    • Eurocode 0: Basis of structural design.
    • Eurocode 1: Actions on structures.
    • Eurocode 2: Design of concrete structures.
    • Eurocode 3: Design of steel structures.
    • Eurocode 7: Geotechnical design.
  • Familiarity with Scia Engineer calculation software and commonly used Microsoft Office software.
