Senior Engineering Manager (Web Platform)

About the Position

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager (Web Platform) to lead and grow our engineering team, focusing on strategic planning and platform investment. This role is pivotal in defining the team's roadmap, ensuring alignment with Headway's product and business goals, and fostering a culture of technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the engineering team through people development, strategic planning, and close partnership with Engineering Leadership, Product, and Design.
• Define and advocate for the team's roadmap, ensuring clear and well-supported cases for platform investment across the organization.
• Maintain and evolve the web architecture, frameworks, and libraries, ensuring high-quality user experiences.
• Define and propagate front-end best practices, including accessibility, performance, testing, and maintainability.
• Facilitate product design workflows, enabling efficient movement from concept to shipped product.
• Proactively create organizational visibility for the team's work through documentation, metrics, and stakeholder engagement.
• Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with Design and Product, keeping platform and product roadmaps in sync.

Requirements

• Experience: 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager and 10+ years as a Software Engineer with depth in modern frontend and web technologies.
• Skills: Proficiency in TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Engineering Management.
• Strategic Communication: Ability to translate platform investments into clear business value for non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Proven track record of building alignment across multiple product teams and navigating competing priorities.
• Proactive Visibility: Experience in creating organizational visibility for team's work through documentation, metrics, and stakeholder engagement.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Remix, Datadog, PagerDuty, Sentry, and Github.
• Strong background in leading platform, infrastructure, or developer experience teams.
