Responsibilities

As Headway's Senior Accounting Manager, you will:

• Manage and Develop a Team: Oversee a team of 3+ accountants, setting priorities, reviewing work, providing feedback, and coaching them on technical accounting and process improvements.
• Automate Accounting Workflows: Lead the adoption of AI and LLMs to automate tasks such as journal entry preparation, reconciliations, flux analysis, and audit support.
• Own Financial Close Processes: Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and account analyses.
• Review Financial Documents: Approve journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux analyses prepared by the team.
• Lead Technical Accounting: Conduct research and set policies under US GAAP, documenting accounting positions and memos for complex transactions.
• Support Annual Audit: Coordinate PBC requests and responses, partnering with the Assistant Controller to manage external auditor interactions.
• Partner Cross-Functionally: Work with the People team on payroll accounting and reconciliations, and with Finance, Data, Engineering, and Product teams to scale accounting operations.
• Drive Process Improvements: Leverage tools like Netsuite, Workday, and Ramp to reduce manual work and improve controls.
• Lead Strategic Projects: Coordinate cross-functional partners to deliver measurable business impact through strategic accounting projects.

Requirements

• Experience: 10+ years of accounting and/or audit experience, including at least 5 years managing a team.
• Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field (CPA preferred but not required).
• Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and experience leading month-end close in a high-growth environment.
• Public Accounting Experience: Experience in public accounting (Big 4 or large firm) and/or in-house at a high-growth or pre-IPO company.
• Automation Proficiency: History of utilizing LLMs to automate processes.
• Coaching and Development: A track record of coaching and developing accounting talent.
• Technology Utilization: Hands-on experience with Netsuite (and ideally Numeric and Ramp), with a bias toward using technology to scale accounting operations.
• Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and partner effectively across functions.
• Proactive Mindset: A proactive, ownership mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
