We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our team at Headway, a company dedicated to revolutionizing mental healthcare access. You will play a crucial role in designing the search results experience for our platform, ensuring that patients can find the right therapist for their needs efficiently and effectively.

About the Team & Role

One of the most challenging aspects of finding a therapist is determining which qualified provider is the best fit. You'll design the search results page and the provider cards on it, focusing on how results are tiered, what information is displayed, and how we explain why a particular provider was chosen. You'll work within the Patient Onboarding pod, collaborating closely with a Staff Product Designer, a Product Manager, an engineering manager, and a researcher.

Our design team operates AI-first. Designers use tools like Claude Code and Cursor to prototype, ideate, and implement improvements to our codebase. We seek designers who are comfortable integrating AI into their practice.

Responsibilities

• Own the design for the patient search results experience, including results tiering, provider cards, match explanations, filters, sort options, and handling sparse and empty states.
• Design and run sustained experiments on a conversion-critical surface, framing hypotheses, designing variants, analyzing results, and deciding on the next iteration.
• Shape how a provider's style and experience are expressed to patients, partnering with the Ranking team and the Profiles team.
• Bring a point of view on what search results should become and turn it into shippable increments with your Product Manager and Engineering Manager.
• Work directly with research and data to understand patient hesitations, conduct your own research when necessary, and design for patients who are unsure of what they want.
• Raise the craft bar on one of Headway's highest-traffic patient surfaces and evolve our design system as needed.
• Prototype in code and AI tools so the team can respond to real, actionable items instead of static mocks.

Requirements

• 5-8 years of experience designing consumer products, with end-to-end ownership of a live surface used daily by people.
• A portfolio that demonstrates mature, shipped craft on dense and information-heavy projects.
• Experience iterating on a conversion-critical surface over months, with the ability to discuss what failed and what worked.
• Comfort with numbers and a skeptical approach to them: you can articulate what you'd measure and what that measure might miss.
• Opinions on what to remove, especially on pages with too many choices, where restraint is key to good design.
• Ability to partner with Product Management and engineering as peers, share work before it is finished, and maintain a position under pressure without becoming brittle.
• Experience with AI tools as part of your workflow, with the ability to discuss where they helped, where they were wrong, and what you overrode.

• Experience with marketplaces, search, discovery surfaces, or healthcare.
