We are looking for a Senior Windows System Engineer now.

Role summary:

We need a strong Windows System Engineer with real hands-on experience in embedded / industrial Windows environments. The candidate will configure, harden and customize Windows for a dedicated kiosk-mode industrial product. The final setup should be a production-ready Windows image running a Unity-based application as the only interactive shell, with Python-based background services, custom DLLs and hardware-specific configuration for an industrial-grade single-board computer.

Responsibilities

• Own the full OS-level configuration pipeline, from a clean Windows image to a production-ready, field-deployable system.
• Configure Windows in kiosk mode / Shell Launcher mode so that the Unity application starts automatically as the only interactive shell.
• Lock down the environment so users have no access to desktop, taskbar, system UI or unintended OS functionality.
• Manage registration, versioning and dependency chain of custom DLLs.
• Ensure correct DLL loading order and compatibility across updates.
• Set up Python-based background services as proper Windows services.
• Configure auto-start, watchdog recovery, logging and inter-process communication with the Unity application.
• Tune the setup for the target industrial board, including drivers, GPIO, serial peripherals, BIOS/UEFI settings and thermal management.
• Provide ongoing support after setup and implementation.
• Deliver a fully documented, reproducible Windows image ready for volume deployment.

Requirements

• Must-have technical skills:

  • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise / Windows 11 IoT Enterprise.
  • Shell Launcher v2.
  • Assigned Access.
  • Unified Write Filter, UWF.
  • Group Policy-based lockdown.
  • Windows system internals:
    • registry;
    • services architecture;
    • WMI;
    • COM/DCOM;
    • DLL side-by-side loading.
  • DLL registration, versioning and dependency management.
  • PowerShell scripting.
  • Python service deployment on Windows.
  • pywin32 and/or NSSM.
  • virtualenv packaging.
  • dependency isolation.
  • Windows services:
    • auto-start;
    • watchdog recovery;
    • logging;
    • IPC.
  • Unity runtime on Windows.
  • DirectX dependencies.
  • Resolution and display management.
  • Crash recovery.
  • Windows image creation and deployment.
  • DISM.
  • WinPE.
  • unattend.xml / answer files.
  • Reproducible and automated provisioning.
  • Experience with industrial SBCs / embedded x86 boards.
  • Experience with vendors such as Advantech, Kontron, Beckhoff or similar.
  • Hardware / board-level constraints:
    • GPIO;
    • serial peripherals;
    • BIOS/UEFI settings;
    • thermal management.

• Nice to have:

  • Windows Autopilot.
  • MDM-based provisioning for fleet deployment.
  • CI/CD pipelines for OS image building and validation.
  • Real-time / deterministic scheduling constraints on Windows.
  • Secure Boot.
  • BitLocker.
  • TPM configuration on industrial hardware.

Expected Deliverable

A fully documented and reproducible Windows image that:

• boots directly into the Unity kiosk application;
• has all required DLLs correctly registered;
• runs and monitors Python services;
• is hardened against unintended user interaction;
• is protected from unwanted OS behavior or updates;
• is ready for deployment on the target industrial board.
