About the Position

Senior Product Designer, Design Systems

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Product Designer to join Headway, a leading mental healthcare platform, in shaping the future of mental healthcare access. As a key member of our design team, you will play a crucial role in building and evolving our design system, Helix, to empower both patients and therapists.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Component design: Design flexible, scalable components and maintain high standards for typography, spacing, color, states, and density. Provide detailed specifications and Figma library components with variants and properties.
• Tokens and theming: Develop the semantic token architecture and theming specifications that cater to diverse needs, from consumer marketplaces to internal operational tools.
• Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation that is actionable for designers, engineers, and coding agents.
• Partnership with product teams: Collaborate with product designers and engineers to address their design system needs, advocate for the effective use of Helix, and develop migration plans for component changes.
• Accessibility: Ensure Helix meets high accessibility standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing digital products, including at least two on a design system used by multiple teams.
• Strong focus on visual craft and attention to detail in typography, spacing, color, states, and density.
• Ability to distinguish between one-off requests and systemic gaps.
• Experience in making systems legible through clear documentation and well-chosen patterns.

• Compensation: Base pay range of $180,000 - $225,000 based on qualifications, experience, and location. Potential for equity grants.

About Design Systems at Headway

Our design system, Helix, supports our consumer marketplace and EHR, enabling a broad range of use cases. We are currently rebuilding Helix from the ground up, and we need a strong design system partner to help us shape its new direction. Our design team works AI-first, using tools like Claude Code and Claude Design to prototype and iterate. We aim to build a design system that empowers teams to use Helix with AI tooling and rethink how we build systems to support AI-first workflows.
