Finance Operations Manager / Financial Controller

About the Position

We are seeking a Senior Finance Operations Manager / Financial Controller for a hybrid role in Malta. This role involves setting up and overseeing the daily financial operations, reconciliations, and safeguarding controls of a new entity. The main challenge is to build and manage the finance and operational backbone of the company during its first years of licensing, ensuring full compliance and operational resilience while scaling efficiency.

Reporting to the Managing Director/CEO.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily finance operations: safeguarding sweeps, reconciliations, settlements, and cash-flow monitoring.
• Maintain accurate accounting and financial reporting: in line with local regulatory standards.
• Liaise with banks and payment partners: to ensure smooth settlement processes and liquidity management.
• Oversee transaction monitoring: and ensure adherence to safeguarding procedures.
• Support the Managing Director and Board: in regulatory management and management reporting.
• Prepare data and collaborate with external auditors and regulatory authorities (MFSA).
• Design and document internal operational processes: ensuring efficiency and auditability.
• Support automation and process improvement initiatives: in coordination with technology teams.

Daily Tasks

• Perform and validate daily safeguarding reconciliations.
• Execute treasury transfers and liquidity sweeps between client and operational accounts.
• Review and post accounting entries and operational transactions.
• Prepare short-term cash flow forecasts.
• Track and follow up on pending settlements and operational incidents.
• Communicate with partner banks and service providers as needed.
• Maintain all operational and reconciliation logs in compliance with internal policy.

Requirements

• Fully qualified and warranted accountant (CPA/ACCA).
• Experience in a similar role.
• Background in financial services would be considered an asset.
• Hands-on approach.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to establish strong relationships with local stakeholders and regulating organizations.
